Not Telling Anyone

I haven't told anyone about my surgery.  Well, let me take that back, a total of four people outside my family know about my surgery.  Two are at work (supervisors who had to approve time off) and two are close friends/neighbors.  I don't see or speak to my parents or any of my siblings, so that's nothing to worry about.  My inlaws are in town, but we see each other maybe three or four times a year.  When we do see them, they will think I've been dieting - which is fine because I am.

I don't plan to tell anyone in the near future.  I just don't want to be judged.  Throughout my pre-op period, I surfed and read a lot on the internet.  I found blogs of others who have had both lap banding and GBS surgery.  They had told some people and had gotten mixed responses.  Some were supportive and understanding, while others were judgmental and accusatory - saying they took the easy way out.  Let me just say that if someone thinks that GBS (or lap banding) is the easy way out, they are sadly mistaken.

GBS is only a tool to help in the weight loss process and lifestyle change.  It helps you control your food intake while you work your behind off to exercise and lose the fat that has accumulated over the years.  The weight won't come off if exercise isn't incorporated - it's plain and simple.  So the easy way out is a bogus argument.  If I do ever decide to tell anyone and they bring that up, I hope that I will be confident enough by then to quickly set them back in their place explaining exactly how easy things have been.
